Honor Flight Network greeters and volunteers living in the DC area are the backbone to providing our Honor Flight heroes with a meaningful welcome to DC and at the memorials built in their honor. This special time of celebration of our veterans will have lasting memories on them for years to come. Being a greeter or volunteer is fun, educational but most importantly – fulfilling – as you are helping to give these heroes the welcome many of them never got when they came home from their service time. This website provides information for greeters or volunteers living in the greater DC area. If you live outside the DC area and wish to volunteer for your local hub, please <click here> to reach out to the hub in your area.

The Honor Flight Network is a group of over 125 “hubs” of volunteers working together in their individual communities to bring our honored veterans to DC in celebration and for them to visit and reflect at the memorials built in thier honor.
Groups of people made up of 100% volunteers who donate their time to greet our nation’s Heroes as they arrive in Washington DC on their Honor Flights. These veterans range from World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam War and all times in between. Veterans generally during two “Flight Seasons” Spring and Fall. Time spent in Washington D.C. at the memorials built in their honor allows them to reflect and be recognized for their sacrifice and service to our country and our freedoms.
Greeters meet our Veterans at one of the three DC-area airports, a hotel or at one of the Memorials. Greeters participate as individuals or a group; gathering to wave and welcome our heroes as they arrive or depart the DC area.
With over 350 trips in a calendar year, greeters have plenty of opportunities that fit into your schedule. <Click here> to see how you, your company, civic organization or musical group can greet our Veterans in DC!
Mail Call campaign – Mail Call is a powerful way to show your appreciation to our Veterans. On each Honor Flight trip, each Veteran is provided a packet of Mail Cal, just like they received while serving. During WWII, Eleanor Roosevelt saw the value in the morale of the troops when they received regular mail. “No mail, low morale.” Mail continued to play a part for troops away from home through the Vietnam War. And while “snail mail” is now a lost art, it was looked upon by our Veterans of the day as a valued possession, getting letters from loved ones at home.
Some Veterans no longer have a robust family support system to provide heartfelt notes of thanks and appreciation. This is where our grateful nation can supplement Mail Call to ensure all Veterans receive a stuffed packet of mail. For more information on how you or your organization can assist with Mail Call, <click here>. Your notes will be provided to hubs across the country.
Volunteers offer assistance as part of one of the DC-area “Ground Crews” who actively assist the hubs navigate through the terminals safety and efficiently. There is no minimum requirement to serve on one of the Airport Ground Crews.
Volunteer DC-based guardians and tour guides are sometimes utilized by hubs upon arrival in DC.
