DC Airport Support Welcome Site

We are thrilled you are here to help celebrate and honor our veterans visiting Washington, D.C.

Honor Flight Network greeters and volunteers living in the DC area are the backbone to providing our Honor Flight heroes a meaningful welcome to DC and at the memorials built in their honor. This special time of celebration of our veterans will have lasting memories on them for years to come. Being a greeter or volunteer is fun, educational but most importantly – fulfilling – as you are helping to give these heroes the welcome many of them never got when they came home from their service time.

To learn more about greeter or volunteer opportunities at the three DC area airports or other DC area locations – click on the links below. (Note: each of these boxes below will be hyperlinked to an underlying page or section)

What Is The Honor Flight Network

The Honor Flight Network is a group of over 125 “hubs” of volunteers working together in their individual communities to bring our honored veterans to DC in celebration and for them to visit and reflect at the memorials built in thier honor.

Who Are the DC Airport Volunteers

Groups of people made up of 100% volunteers who donate their time to greet our nation’s Heroes as they arrive in Washington DC on their Honor Flights. These veterans range from World War II, Korean War, and Vietnam War and all times in between. Veterans generally during two “Flight Seasons” Spring and Fall. Time spent in Washington D.C. at the memorials built in their honor allows them to reflect and be recognized for their sacrifice and service to our country and our freedoms.

What is a Greeter or DC Volunteer?

Greeters meet our Veterans either inside the airport terminals or outside.  They come as individuals or small groups gathering to wave and welcome to our heroes as they arrive or depart the DC area.  You can learn more about how to become involved – just follow the link to the airport of your choice above.

Volunteers offer assistance in a variety of capacities from helping guide Honor Flights through the terminals to the security areas, bathrooms and gates to volunteering as a guardian for an Honor Flight hub that needs additional guardians for the day for veterans once they arrive in the DC area.

Regardless of which airport works best for your location and time, here is a list of just some of the opportunities available that you can volunteer your time for.
